NEET Exam 2021: All The Updates You Need To Know

The date is set for your upcoming NEET exams, and it’s time to set your goals now. After months of confusion, postponing, and speculation due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has finally been announced that the National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) 2021 for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, and BHMS Courses is to be conducted on the 1st of August, 2021. It is said that the exam will be conducted in 11 languages, including English and Hindi through Pen and Paper mode on 1st August 2021 (Sunday) and the online application process for the same will begin shortly.

Conducted by NTA i.e. National Testing Agency, NEET is the only entrance test for those who wish to get admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, Veterinary, and other medical courses in India. Last year around 16 lakh candidates had registered for the exam out of which 85-90% of candidates had appeared for the exam. Moreover, AIIMS and JIPMER MBBS exams have been dissolved and for admission to these institutes, you have to appear for the NEET exam only. After qualifying NEET candidates will become eligible to get admission in more than 75,000 MBBS seats and 25,000 BDS seats across the country.

The NEET Exam which is conducted every year was delayed twice last year and was finally held in September. However, this year’s test is not likely to be delayed. As stated earlier, the plan was to conduct the NEET Exam online similar to JEE which is meant for admission into the top engineering colleges, however, the government has decided not to make any changes to the NEET-UG exam pattern this year.

The ministry of education had also been anticipating holding NEET twice annually from this year, however, the plan has been dropped for now.  The director-general Mr. Joshi also confirmed that the test will be held only once this year as it is believed that there is no point in changing the pattern at the last minute.

The Paper Pattern

As per usual, the three-hour exam that becomes the basis for students admission into different medical colleges across the country consists of three sections namely Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Students need to be extremely thorough with the NCERT or respective state board books of these three subjects for Class XI and XII respectively to ace the exam. Being one of the most competitive examinations in the country, the provision of negative marking is also to be kept in kind as every correct question in the exam fetches you four marks but every wrong answer is also penalized and results in a deduction of one mark. Hence students are advised to exercise restraint in those questions where they are unsure about the answer and have no clue about other options listed in the question as well.
